There is just a bit of OM drama and OW drama. One implied sex scene with an OW and the hero. Neither were celibate the seven years apart. It honestly had the bones to be a GREAT book, but it was simply too long and needed to be tightened up and fleshed out more plot wise AND character wise.
It also would have benefited from having the heroines POV here and there. And of course, a little more steam would have been nice ;D At this point, I am on the fence about whether I am interested enough to continue on with the next book. Time will tell I guess. Born to a neglectful junkie ho, deep in the clutches of poverty, he knew the only way he was going to find a way out was by his own blood, sweat and tears.
Armed with an almost cocky attitude and a chip on his shoulder, he and his best friend, Nix, start on the path to success. Until the day she disappears. Fast forward seven years and Solomon is virtually at the top of his game, his biggest rival being the Philly mob who want to erase him as a threat, and surprisingly Reina is back. Is she here to hurt him or help him? You have to read the book to find out! I really really really liked Solomon. I get that he was an anti-hero and had virtually no redeeming qualities, but there was a strange sort of honesty in his crimes. I also admired his fearlessness.
This man was freaking BOLD! I enjoyed the action scenes, the background stories, the itty-bitty romance with Reina, and a lot in between. This story is far from over, as far as I can tell, and I look forward to whatever happens next! Release: Feb. View all 4 comments.
Feb 07, Jemima rated it it was ok. I'm not quite sure what to think about this book to be honest. I felt like as though the storyline was dragging a little to long with so many unnecessary 'details'. I felt like as though the characters were trying to be something they really weren't- Almost psychotic. I feel like as if they were trying to be all 'sadistic' and 'crazy' like Joker an Hmm.. I feel like as if they were trying to be all 'sadistic' and 'crazy' like Joker and Quinn but it felt more impostor-ish than actually being psychotic madmen.
I seriously had such high hopes for Solomon and Reina but they didn't really grasp my attention. I really could say so much more but I don't want to be harsh. Madman was an 'ok' book. Note: This book was seriously long! This is the story of Reina Wilde and Solomon King.
This does end with a cliffhanger setting us up for their continuing story. Solomon grew up with a drug addicted whore of a mother and had to protect himself and get things by robbing people. His only friend if you would call him that was Nix Malone. Solomon at the age of 17 had grown a reputation of being bad and would fight easily with anyone. One day while walking to the Arcade he happens to see a girl being harassed by two other kids.
Solomon decided to help the girl who we later learned was Reina. Solomon would go on to become a King in a mafia where he would end up meeting up with Reina again Jan 27, Laura Lee rated it really liked it. Greer 4 Stars Watch out world! Here come Solomon King. Growing up in Strawberry Mansion with a junkie for a mother, Solomon King has done whatever he needed to do to survive.
He takes what he wants, when he wants, from who he wants. When you have nothing, you do everything. Reina is the girl from the other side of the tracks. One who has it all handed to her, no questions asked. She sees what is wrong in the way her parents expect her to act, expects her to date, expects her to be friends with. She wants to be herself. The place she feels better at is Strawberry Mansion.
One that will last a lifetime even though separation happens, one can only hope that when and if the two ever meet up again, the bond that was formed years prior will be strong enough to hold them together now that they are older. Long may we reign.
I enjoyed reading this one. I really liked the friendship between Solomon and Nix and how over the years, their friendship never wavered. Dec 12, Eye Candy Bookstore rated it it was amazing. It was completely on target and kept my attention the entire read. WS has amazing attention to detail in his story telling so much, that he truly pulls you in to the book like you are right there with the characters. The complexity of his main characters in this series is right on point, he gives you just enough to really feel them, but not so much as you are over stimulated by them.
WS is a natural story teller in a raw, in your face kind of way. Reviewed by Tonya Nichols Jan 11, Jo rated it it was amazing. Full review to come! The two of us will reign supreme over everything we lay our eyes on and we'll bring fire and chaos to anyone who stands in our way. I'm absolutely obsessed with and it and love the alpha hero and the strong woman that is his exception.
I honestly could not get enough of Solomon and Reina. Solomon King is from the wrong side of the tracks. Born and raised in Strawberry Mansion, he's been the king of the streets before he can remember, rising from a drug addicted mother and a poverty-stricken upbringing to becoming a boss. But when a beautiful young girl from his 3. But when a beautiful young girl from his teenage years makes an impression on him then and throughout the years, it shapes his future and the man he becomes. I was hooked from the get go seeing their connection over the years.
She was his Reina - His "Queen" and his everything and it was amazing to watch it play out. While I enjoyed the storytelling and the early camaraderie between Solomon and Reina, I felt this novel was almost saga-like. But overall it was a solid and compelling read and I look forward to more!
Feb 04, Anne Milne rated it it was amazing. Soloman is the bad boy from the wrong side of town, he lives with his drug addict mother with no love or affection and no hope for the future. Reina is the girl who should have it all, she goes the right school, wears the latest fashion, has rich parents but she goes looking fit something more and meets Soloman. I stayed up until 2am reading I LOVED this book, freaking loved everything about it the story the characters Soloman and Reina are like Bonny and Clyde on steroids only much more maniacal.
I stayed up until 2am reading I was just so invested on the story. The character development of Soloman is amazing, we get to see him grow from the young punk in the neighbourhood that everyone avoids to the man he was always destined to be. Is he a good man? I loved how she came to be. These two are a major power couple. Feb 05, Becky Rendon rated it really liked it. Madman is crazier than you expected. It's more twisted than you hoped. He is both the Joker and Harley Quinn without the bad make up. Absolute chaos is caused by one man, Solomon King. Once you get to know him, you will fall under his spell.
You will also question your own sanity. If you like your men bad, you will love Solomon.

I love when I am done with a book and I can't help but smile. That's when you know you've read a damn good book. Twists and turns I didn't expect, page after page.. Can we also give a shout out to Solomon's right hand man Nix? I loved him too and I hope he gets a story if his own : This book was everything! Solomon and Reina are not to be messed with. Feb 07, Wendy Livingstone rated it it was amazing. Wow, what an amazing story this is! Reina is the golden girl, who can have whatever she wants, but she does not want this lifestyle. Solomon has had a tough upbringing, doing whatever he has to survive, and which has left him as a dark and ruthless psycho.
When these two meet as teenagers, they are instantly drawn to each other, and when they reconnect as adults, life has shaped them into the characters they are now. No spoilers; this is so worth the read, you will not be disappointed! This is a Wow, what an amazing story this is! This is a phenomenal story, which had me hooked and intrigued throughout. Feb 06, LaShanta Charles rated it really liked it. I liked that the author started us off with a look into Soloman's background and how he came to meet Reina. I also enjoyed Soloman's crazy side. I loved that he was psycho enough to fear nothing and was wholly unapologetic about it.
That being said, I also felt like the author gave me a look at Soloman's crazy and then just flooded me with it. While that didn't truly detract from the book, it went along with the fact that the author gave more details on things I didn't care about and therefore gave the book a sort of droning quality. For instance, so much time was spent telling about their teenaged years, then Reina disappeared for years and while I was okay with knowing what Soloman was doing all that time I felt like it took away from me connecting with them as the main characters; so when Reina came back into the picture, I was too disconnected to relate and then the book ended.
This wasn't one of those books where I felt like I absolutely had to know what would happen next, but more along the lines of I'm JUST interested enough to keep going and finish it. In spite of that, it seemed to pick up more at the end and leads me to believe that the next book could be much better, so I'll definitely continue the series. Cathexis is what explains sexual attraction , the instinct for cuddling pets and pinching babies' cheeks.
However, cathexis is not love. All the same, true love cannot begin in isolation, a certain amount of cathexis is necessary to get sufficiently close to be able to truly love. Once through the cathexis stage, the work of love begins. It is not a feeling. It consists of what you do for another person. It is about truly knowing and understanding them. Peck postulates that there are four stages of human spiritual development: . Nonetheless, these changes are very noticeable and mark a significant difference in the personality of the individual.
Based on his experience with community building workshops, Peck says that community building typically goes through four stages:. The four stages of community formation are somewhat related to a model in organization theory for the five stages that a team goes through during development. These five stages are:. It is in this third stage that Peck's community-building methods differ in principle from team development.
While teams in business organizations need to develop explicit rules, guidelines and protocols during the norming stage, the emptiness stage of community building is characterized, not by laying down the rules explicitly, but by shedding the resistance within the minds of the individuals. Peck started the Foundation for Community Encouragement FCE to promote the formation of communities, which, he argues, are a first step towards uniting humanity and saving us from self-destruction. The Blue Heron Farm is an intentional community in central North Carolina , whose founders stated that they were inspired by Peck's writings on community.
Peck himself had no involvement with this project. Peck describes what he considers to be the most salient characteristics of a true community: . From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Scott Peck.
