I also liked the lady's character Also the Miller couple was fabulously written as well.
I feel my reviews are biased whenever I talk about something written by Schiller. It could be his odd way of removing parts which would help the reader understand completely the situation although it's understandable the way it is to help the action evolve and progress faster.
But anyway I liked Kabale und Liebe very much. The influences of Shakespeare and Lessing, which are significa I feel my reviews are biased whenever I talk about something written by Schiller.
Emilia Galotti review – rare return for Lessing's tragedy of lust and virtue
The influences of Shakespeare and Lessing, which are significant, were used brilliantly. But the play was full of action and suspense. With a tragic and dramatic end and a really bad guy to make the protagonists suffer Appart from being a great Sturm und Drang example i.
The self-criticism implied in the drama was the aspect that profoundly caught my attention. The love that drags itself to the threshold of sacrifice always fails to blossom in to its full and falls back as it comes to self preservation. May be Lady Milford and her radical action in the end could be a realization of a will that is prepared to move one step beyond her predetermined bounds and make a change.
And Appart from being a great Sturm und Drang example i. I never expected to actually like this book. Especially not since I had to read it for my exam.

But I enjoyed it. The beginning was really good, intruiging and I also like the style and the oh so different language. Sadly, the ending didn't really do it for me. I dunno, I got a bit bored reading the last pages. Nonetheless, a really good book! Shelves: st-classics , f-play , st-school-reads , read-in-my-teens. I had to read it in school and actually liked it.
At that time I also found out that Schiller had once done a translation for "Romeo and Juliet" which made me pretty sure that he stole at least half the content of the story from Shakespeare but I still liked his version. Probably mostly because I watched a modern interpretation of the play at the theatre back then and really enjoyed it. This was a school reading and it was pretty good for a school reading. But I understand that was the time back there and yeah. Okay ich verstehe dass so war die Sturm und Drang Zeit aber tja.

Intrigue and Love. I enjoyed reading this, but unfortunately I've forgotten too much of my impressions to write a review. Had to read too many books in too short a time, I guess. I know one thing though: I want to read more of Schiller, I like his way of thinking. Been some time since I read it..
I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. Maybe I didn't enjoy it that much because this was read pre-Frau R. Sometimes reading classics is awesome, sometimes you understand nothing and you've seen the characters and storyline a few hundred times before. This book was kind of the second one for me, sorry Herr Schiller. This was a school read and I have to say it was the best book I ever had to read in school for now. It was surprisingly in parts really exciting.
Sure the language is archaic but it can be easily understood. I read it in school several times and that might be the reason why I was never really into the book. Love and Intrigue is a play from the German Classicism era, although its tone is more that of Romanticism. Alas, the way Ferdinand handles the knot of intrigues he finds himself in left me with mixed feelings about him, mostly because of his blindness to the possibility of the said intrigue.
Unlike Ferdinand, the sixteen-year-old, innocent Louisa, is anything but ignorant and blind, and I loved her for how astutely she sees through people and their intentions and how she strives to do right by people she deems she must do right by, which is — as it was meant to — her very downfall.

Of the other characters, Lady Milford was intriguing and rather likeable, while the play also employed your typical assortment of villains and more or less stock supporting characters. All in all, Love and Intrigue is a good enough read for a work that really should be seen in a theatre, and its themes give food for thought at the present time just as they did when it was written. This review was originally published on my book blog. I liked this play more than others that I got assigned. I liked how schiller openly criticised the absolutist leader.
Schiller's third drama, Intrigue and Love , is his most tightly plotted to that point, with only a small number of characters revolving around the doomed love affair of Ferdinand son of a noble president and Luise daughter of a humble music teacher. The Romeo and Juliet plot is not original.
The events are melodramatic to the extreme, with an extended ending that pushes the limits of the audience's suspension of disbelief. I actually enjoyed the play very much, but merely as light entertainme Schiller's third drama, Intrigue and Love , is his most tightly plotted to that point, with only a small number of characters revolving around the doomed love affair of Ferdinand son of a noble president and Luise daughter of a humble music teacher.
I actually enjoyed the play very much, but merely as light entertainment, hence the lower rating. I feel it failed to tackle the big ideas of Schiller's previous dramas. It's a play about love, politics, and jealousy, but it didn't challenge any of my perspectives or shed in any new light on those old dramatic themes. Citing Literature.
