Angie Lisle: The Vegan Stoner Cookbook: Easy Vegan Recipes to Munch

Aug 12, Angie Lisle rated it liked it. Some of these recipes seemed ludicrous to me -Granola Bowl, for example- because it's something that anyone can figure out while standing in their kitchen. But turn the page and there's a recipe for a vegan version of Hollandaise Benedict and, later on, an interesting version of Cream of 'Shroom Soup, which could be used as a base for many dishes. And there's a couple dishes, like Banana Dog - a cooked banana in a hot dog bun - that I have no interest trying. There's also a couple recipes, like Some of these recipes seemed ludicrous to me -Granola Bowl, for example- because it's something that anyone can figure out while standing in their kitchen.

There's also a couple recipes, like Samosas, that can be easily tweaked into some amazing munchies. Each dish comes with tips on how to make slight adjustments for use in other recipes. The book also explains how to make some of the ingredients - like tahini and almond milk - so you don't have to buy prepackaged products.

These recipes are designed to be quick, for people who don't mind using some prepackaged products like crescent roll dough, pizza dough, and ketchup. Substitutions are easy to make, if you prefer to make your own orange juice or English muffins. There's an abundance of artwork - each recipe has a real photograph accompanying it but the ingredient list is depicted as an illustration that looks like it was done for a children's picture book. I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for a review and it was hard to make out some of the ingredients on my Nook even when I zoomed in.

I recommend using this book in print format. Aug 28, Beth rated it liked it Shelves: netgalley , cookbooks. I'm really just vegetarian though I generally only cook vegan recipes and I'm definitely not a stoner, but I wondered if I might be one at heart after a stoned friend of mine purchased three pounds of jelly beans many years ago and I totally helped him finish them off. Maybe I'm immature, but I found the drawings ridiculously hilarious.

I laughed out loud at a banana getting pantsed, for example. As others have mentioned, the recipes are primarily made with packaged foods.

At first this kind o I'm really just vegetarian though I generally only cook vegan recipes and I'm definitely not a stoner, but I wondered if I might be one at heart after a stoned friend of mine purchased three pounds of jelly beans many years ago and I totally helped him finish them off.

At first this kind of annoyed me.. My only complaint is that some of the recipes were a little too simplified. I suspect that that "sushi rolls" for example might be a little too difficult for even me to make sober, let alone a stoned person.

The illustrations are amusing, and I would recommend getting this book in print. However, ever since I got a cookbook that called for "? I received a copy of this free through NetGalley. Aug 03, Alex McGilvery rated it did not like it. I looked at this cookbook hoping for a way to make vegetables more interesting and provide some variety on the occasional evenings when I am in the mood and have the ingredients for some good vegan cuisine.

I was a little disconcerted to see when I looked inside the cover that the stoner part of the title is given as much weight as the vegan part. I could got past that. I was more interested in the recipes than the illustrations. What I had much more t I looked at this cookbook hoping for a way to make vegetables more interesting and provide some variety on the occasional evenings when I am in the mood and have the ingredients for some good vegan cuisine.

That made most of the recipes unusable to me. For those who might find the stoner amusing or applicable, or for those who want ways to tweak the mixes they already have in the cupboard, this book may be useful. View 2 comments. Plus the illustrations are adorable and the photos are mouthwatering. Perfect cookbook for the stoned or intimidated in the vegan kitchen. The illustrations are great and fun. Recipes are easy and delicious. The author did a great job of using illustrations to define ingredient lists. Nov 26, Samantha rated it really liked it. This book is so cute! I don't have vegan soy yogurt or tofu dogs around often but the style is akin to a children's book making it seem so easy to make anything in it.

For those that are less adept at vegan cooking, it may be oversimplified and explanations would be needed, e. Nov 10, Susan rated it liked it Shelves: cookbooks , adult-nonfiction. Many easy recipes, but I didn't copy any of them to make. For one thing, seitan simply isn't sold anywhere near my house and I'm too lazy to make it. It was called for in quite a few dishes. I prefer bean-based main dishes to those with seitan, tofu, or tempeh, mainly because my family is far more likely to eat beans.
